About the Artist...

A love of travel and adventure together with a real passion for wildlife and conservation provide the inspiration to my paintings.

My interest in painting and sketching led me to pursue 'A' levels in Art & Design and Technical graphics.  Despite thoroughly enjoying my studies and acquiring successful grades, art remained at this time for personal enjoyment only.  I chose instead to pursue another passion at University that of understanding the environment.  Much of my spare time was and still is spent outdoors but I wanted to further appreciate the landscapes and wildlife by learning how to actively take part in conserving them.

Successful completion of a BA Honours degree in Environmental Planning & Management from the University of North Wales, Bangor led me to become a Voluntary Warden at Dartmoor National Park learning the practical conservation skills needed to become a Ranger.  A further 5 years as a Countryside Ranger for Lee Valley Regional Park Authority allowed complete immersion in wildlife monitoring and surveying and provided an excellent opportunity to capture the environment around me on camera and in paint.

A more recent trip to Malaysian Borneo inspired me to concentrate on my paintings full time.

I look forward to working with you soon,

Susan Avery
